Very Very Venezia

Venice is best seen from the water and to come cruising in with one's luggage in tow is the only to see it at first sight, because in truth there is nothing quite like it. I have to admit that we did not going in to any museum or church or anything significantly cultural, for the long treacherous queues in the grueling heat were just too much to bear. Instead we opted for sauntering around town, with gelati in hand while taking in all the sights. And as soon as the dusk began to settle I doused myself appropriately with a variety of bellinis, spritzes and prosecco. After all Venetian culture was all about lavishness and abundance and what better way to honour it?

Me on San Marco Piazza
At the time it was the annual Biennale, the Venice art fair and various installations popped up across the city. This one below was taken from a ride on the water bus and the sign says "the world belongs to you." And for some reason something about this simple statement just made me feel so much better about... well everything and really stuck with me.

Here below was another installation, set at the foot of the Rialto bridge: The World's Narrowest House. The point? I have absolutely no idea, but my oh my did this little house get every passer by's attention. Objective achieved I'd say.

To escape the madness of Venice all one needs to do is jump on a water bus and head for one of the  surrounding islands. A mere 20 minutes ride to a safe and peaceful haven. This photo below is of Lido. On the main drag, lined up with fantastic restaurants and bars and big leafy trees hanging overhead. Off we went cycling around the tiny island, through the suburb of majestic villas and past the long stretches of beach almost forgetting that we were in one of the most tourist packed cities. This little resort town gives one the much needed breath of fresh air, while acquiring another sense of Italy.

In the mode of Venice mode, Moschino's new Campaign (below) for their RTW Autumn/ Winter Collection, is inspired by Venice and the line is composed of gold tones, luxurious fabrics and opulence. All fittingly resembling the old ideals of Venetian style. Venice was known through time for a place with abundance in wealth and beauty and one should never forget this when planning a escapade through the waterside city. Glamour and elegance is key, while not forgetting elements of bright and stand out pieces. This is a place to have fun with fashion and play the part of a fabulous Venetian hedonist, keeping up with tradition while appreciating the magnificence of this ancient floating memorial.

Taken from their runway show, an outfit that is all luxe and effortless, for a night stroll to the wine bar and perhaps dinner with equally glamourous company.
A perfect ensemble for a grand evening out, the Opera perhaps?
